I know the frustration of trying to cover personal expenses and goals while having a job which doesn't pay enough to cover all costs. And as a student it can be much more difficult because having a job as a student can be really draining and frustrating. Each of us has their own reasons why they need a side hustle. It could be the need for money to pay bills, a mortgage, school fees etc.

Regardless of your reason, maybe I hope you will find the most suitable ideas for this article. So today I have compiled a list of eight side hustles for both students and full time workers. Some of the options are based on your current occupation while others are spontaneous. I will divide the article into two. The first section is for students while the second is for workers. You can skip to the one meant for you.

Side Hustles for Students

1. Sell Your Old Text Books and Notes

This might not be a permanent or long term income stream but it is something to consider as a student. Especially if you are in nee`d of money to pay for your tuition, food, textbooks, transport or whatever the reason may be. You might own textbooks that you don't need anymore and have no one else in your life who might need them.

You can sell your books to students who might find them useful. For example if you are a first year student in university you could sell your old high school textbooks and notes to students in high school. Some might want both notebooks and textbooks while others might need just one of the two. So either way you could make a buck from that.

Finding customers might be a bit of a hassle but you can try selling to people in your community, friends or students from your former or current school. You can also try to find platforms that facilitate these types of transactions. Or post on your social media like WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok etc.

2. Find a Part Time Job

Pride is one of the things that usually prevents people from finding income streams. This is because as young people in school flexing is a lifestyle so not everyone wants to show that they are struggling financially. But honestly that won't help anyone's situation. You can get a job as a cleaner, garden boy/girl, work at a fast food restaurant or anywhere decent to make the money you need.

However make sure that you don't pick a job that can harm your student career or your future like adult entertainment related jobs. Those are never an option so try anything. The good thing about part time jobs is that if your employer agrees you can have enough time for work, school and rest.

3. Tutor Other Students

Just like selling textbooks and your notes you can also use your knowledge and skills to make some money for yourself. You can teach a particular subject that you are good at, for example if you are good at maths you can offer lessons to students who need it. The good thing about this is that you can also teach people who you already learn with.

Another option could be starting a YouTube channel and making helpful lessons for students all over the world. This however is quite a long term option and requires some investment like a proper phone, a microphone, a laptop and data. Which can be quite expensive but if you are willing to sweat for it you can go for it.

4. Sell Products

I am not suggesting that you can create a store but that is a possible option but you can sell both your old school stationery as well as new ones. You could sell school bags, stationery, and sports equipment. You can sell these specially to students at your school or other schools. You could also sell to a completely different group of people at sports clubs, church and other events.

You don't have to limit yourself to one type of product. You might be good at sewing/tailoring and you can sell the clothes you've made or offer repair services to people in need of them. And you can also create custom products for them as well.

These might not be the only options available to you as a student. Oddly enough your answer could be in the section for full time workers. So you can take a look at that.

Side Hustles for Full Time Workers

1. Start a Business With Your Skills.

You could be good at baking, cooking, gardening etc and you could start your own business with whatever your skill may be. The good news is that you can use some of your earnings from your current job as an investment into your business. If you are good at baking you can make home baked foods and sell them at functions, schools or wherever there is a chance for you to do so.

You can also set up ads on your social media and promote yourself through word of mouth. Your business doesn't have to be a fully registered company or anything but a service that you offer to people who need it. And as a bonus you could also make content around your business and use it as promotional content online to get more customers.

2. Try Freelancing

This might not be for everyone but just like the skills I mentioned before you could have digital skills like copywriting, video editing, photography or anything else that is relevant to the digital market. And you could use that skill and sell it to people on platforms like Fiverr and UpWork.

The good or better part about this side hustle is that it's flexible and allows you to work at your own time, from home and you get to pick who your clients are. You can earn a fixed rate but it might not be easy to get clients. You can read the full article about freelancing here How To Make Money as A Freelancer.

3. You Can Outsource Products for People

You can start a business as a middle man between suppliers and customers. You could find that people in your community are looking for a particular product but do not have easy access to it. For example it could be a certain type of kitchen utensil, gardening tool or anything that people may be looking for.

You can use the dropshipping method but with a twist, so instead of waiting for orders you could order the product from China on Alibaba, AliExpress or any other platform and sell them to people. You can also create a shop from this or an online store whichever works for you. This does need a lot of research and time.

4. Get a Second Job

I know that a lot of people have probably suggested this to you and you brushed it off but it's always a good option. It doesn't have to be a second full time job but it can be a part time job in a completely different industry. For example if you work at restaurants three or four days per week you can use the other days off at another job.

It's important to be transparent with both your employers or the second employee that you have another job. You can use the money you earn to start a business to increase your earnings. Or just use it for other personal reasons.

Conclusion

I know this is probably not what you expected to see. But we don't promote fast money because we know it doesn't exist and if it does there is always a price to pay. These options may not all be suitable for everyone here but I hope they helped.
