You are reading this because you have considered starting a YouTube channel as an income stream or for any other reason. Still, you have had challenges with picking a niche, equipment, software, and many other things that come with creating a channel on YouTube. Most creators on YouTube and other platforms tend to show their faces and it seems like it is standard procedure to do this and “there’s no way to make it without showing your face.” This however is not true because it is very possible to become successful on YouTube without ever showing your face, but it does come with a lot of hard work and effort just like any other channel.

Creating a faceless channel has its pros and cons just like any other channel and there might be some reasons why you do not want to show your face, so we will look at those before we talk about how to create and run such a channel.

Why You Should Start a Faceless YouTube Channel

Starting a faceless channel has some benefits such as;

  1. You can maintain a private life without fame and attention interfering with it.
  2. With your life private your brand cannot be tarnished by personal life choices.
  3. You can work in any environment and have less pressure to maintain the same recording setup.
  4. You can have other people work on your behalf without ruining the nature/system of your channel and content, (this is not always the case.)
  5. You can create multiple channels in different niches without limitations.
  6. You do not have to spend a lot of money on expensive equipment such as a camera.

However, as I mentioned creating this type of channel can have its disadvantages, so let us look at them.

  1. Your audience might not feel a connection with you as they cannot match a face to the character.
  2. You have limited expression of your emotions which can make sharing a message difficult.
  3. You might get fewer opportunities with brand sponsorships as some brands may prefer having a face to market with, however, this can be overcome if you make genuinely great content.
  4. Your audience might not trust you; this is especially true for channels that might comment on important social, economic, or political issues.

Now you need to understand that both faceless and regular channels require the same amount of work in terms of production quality and consistency. So, this means that you will need to put in as much effort as possible to create the best quality content for your audience.

Best Practices for a Faceless YouTube Channel

These are the things that you need to make your channel reach the right audience, grow and in return generate you some income.

  1. Create valuable content: You need to create content that your audience finds useful, entertaining, informative etc. For example, if you create an animation channel that focuses on comedy then you need to create hilarious content so that you might need invest in a script writer to produce the best stories to keep your audience hooked to your channel, rather than producing mediocre content that no one will come back for.
  2. Invest in quality resources for production: I understand that you might be on a budget however you still need to make sure that your content has a decent production quality to impress your viewers, remember first impressions matter. So, you might need to get yourself just a microphone if you make mini documentaries or any other necessary equipment such as a laptop, tablet or just a better phone. Thanks to tools like Audacity and CapCut (not sponsored) you can create high-quality content for free without buying expensive software like Premiere Pro.
  3. Be consistent: There is no need to explain much on this one but the more content you pushout more frequently the more likely it is to get seen and pushed by the algorithm. So, create a posting frequency that you will stick to. For example, you can post one video per week, every Friday. Make sure that you stick to this schedule, if you miss it just use it as more time to work on more content so that you stay ahead of schedule, do not try to make it up otherwise you might end up messing it up completely.
  4. These are just the basic practices that you need but they are not the only ones there is more that you need such as integrity, content planning, strategy, engaging with your audience and more. Let us look at the niches that you might consider in case you have not decided on one yet.

Niches to Consider

  • Edutainment: This is mixing education and entertainment therefore creating informative content for your audience that also keeps them engaged and interested. You can create tech, business, finance, historical or pop culture content.
  • Storytelling: You can produce original stories or tell stories you have heard of to entertain, give a moral lesson or anything else.
  • Christian: I am a Christian myself so you could create content that resonates with other Christians and share about the Bible, teaching, correcting, and helping your audience.
  • Lifestyle: You can share some fashion advice, habit changes, how to be productive, how to lose weight, taking care of your mental health, motivational content etc.
  • Tutorials: You can teach your audience a skill that you have for example, some people might need to learn about Coding, Math, English, Literature, Science, etc.
  • These are not the only niches but some ideas for you to consider, each come with their own challenges and requirements so you will need to get creative, invest money in animation, script writers, editors and more.

Conclusion

Making money on YouTube without ever showing your face is possible and there is as much opportunity in that area just like any other channel. So be sure to get creative, produce the best type of content, get out of your comfort zone, and change your financial life.
