Here on Billogelt, I love to write about tech, business, and finance. In the finance section, I often discuss ways to make money online to help you find the best methods for earning extra income or even securing full-time online work. Today, I will be listing five different ways to make money online using just your phone; however, in some circumstances, a computer might be necessary. Also, note that I do not write about get-rich-quick schemes, as I do not believe in them. In all honesty, they are quite unrealistic. My goal is to help you, not fool you. I make money online through some of the methods listed.

If it’s any inspiration, when I created my blog, memeculture4, it all started on my phone six years ago. Two years in, I started to earn a bit of income, and now I earn better. Making money online is not easy at all; it requires hard work and dedication. If you are serious, you will eventually make it. If you want an easy or lazy way out, this post is not for you. With that being said, let’s take a look at five ways to make money online with just your phone and possibly a laptop.

Note: All options listed in this article most certainly require a good internet connection and a mobile device that can handle a bit of work. So, a device with enough storage and capable RAM is necessary. However, this can depend on each option.

1. Create a Blog/Theme Page on Social Media

Blogging is quite simple. You can create an account on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), or any other platform that you find suitable. However, if you choose to create a blog on a different platform from the examples I gave, make sure that it’s a platform with a large user base to ensure that you get enough traffic. An example is WhatsApp. One example of a blog on social media is Yabaleftonline (not sponsored), which is on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok, and YouTube. You can take a look at the page for inspiration. You can also check out the Billogelt TikTok page for inspiration.

Through a blog on social media, you can create and share content about topics that interest you. For example, you can focus on soccer, sci-fi, church, tech, lifestyle, health, and more. One effective method is to create short clips designed to go viral, featuring compelling titles, engaging hooks, and valuable content for viewers. Another approach is to create text-based content, such as quotes, which can be shared in video, picture, or text formats to connect and engage with your audience. It's essential to choose the appropriate platform to reach your target audience; for instance, Instagram and Facebook are ideal for pictures, while YouTube and TikTok are suitable for videos.

You could also be a content creator in general, producing videos, images, and other types of content for different audiences and monetising it. You can create content such as dancing videos, political commentary, music, finance, tech, business, art, and more. These types of content have historically performed well and also have the potential to generate income outside of social media through gigs and employment opportunities.

How to make money through a blog on social media:

  1. Paid partnerships: Potential clients who find your account suitable for their brand could pay you to promote their business, and you can charge a fair amount of money. This depends solely on your growth in terms of reach and engagement over time.
  2. If you create multiple blogs, you could potentially earn money as a social media manager, using your various blogs/accounts as your portfolio to attract clients. Companies are constantly seeking social media managers, and you can garner their attention through freelance platforms like UpWork.
  3. Create websites where you can offer exclusive content to the audience that you attract through other platforms. You can monetise these websites through ads via Google AdSense, Monetag, and other monetisation platforms. Additionally, you can receive donations, subscriptions, and brand deals through this method. This could be highly effective if you have a laptop to manage the website(s) that you own.

2. YouTube

For a long time, becoming a YouTube content creator always required access to a computer to use YouTube Studio. YouTube Studio is the backend tool that content creators on YouTube use to post videos, community posts, shorts, and even go live. It's also how, as a YouTuber, you can track your views, likes, comments, and handle tasks such as copyright claims. Fortunately, a few years ago, YouTube introduced a way to post content using just your phone and even helps you get monetised and manage your content too.

The method/platform is YouTube Studio Mobile, where you can access most of the tools (not all) on your phone and post content as you please, grow, and eventually start earning. If you create original video content about topics you love, you can upload it to YouTube via your phone and build your audience. YouTube did release an application for editing videos on your phone, which is okay in my opinion, but it cannot beat CapCut (not sponsored), my top recommendation. With CapCut, you can edit your videos and access many cool features typically found in PC apps like Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.

When you start earning on YouTube, you will most certainly need a computer or laptop to access the full experience of YouTube Studio and Google AdSense. However, for starters, the mobile version is good enough.

How to make money on YouTube:

  1. Post content: When your content reaches the right audience, your channel will grow in subscribers, views, and watch time, all of which are necessary for monetisation as there are specific thresholds. Once you reach these thresholds, you can apply for the partnership programme. If approved, you can start earning money on YouTube from the ads displayed on your videos.
  2. Channel memberships and Super Thanks: Depending on your country, this option may or may not be available to you. If it is, you can earn money every time someone subscribes to your channel membership, and you can also receive donations in the form of Super Thanks.
  3. Paid partnerships: This is a very common method of making money on YouTube. Brands will pay you to promote their business, and you can charge a fee and earn well from each promotion.

Do go through YouTube’s policies to understand more about this. You can find them on the "Creators" YouTube channel or Google Support blogs, as Google owns YouTube.

3. TikTok Live

I’m sure you’ve seen people on TikTok go live doing ridiculous things to receive gifts, which can be converted into money. I'm not suggesting you do silly stuff like that, but you can go live doing valuable activities for your potential audience. If you love gaming, for example, you can post gaming content and go live while playing your favourite video game(s). If people enjoy watching you, they may send you gifts that you can convert into money.

Gaming is an example and it’s not the only way to make money on TikTok Live as you can go live doing other things such as talking about things you enjoy, teaching people, or anything else that is suitable and appropriate for the TikTok platform. However, please note that to go live on TikTok, you need to be 18 years or older. Also, be sure to go through their community guidelines to avoid violating them.

4. Ecommerce

E-commerce is the business of selling products online. This is very similar to running a physical shop, but the difference is that you do it online, reaching a wide audience, and you can do it from your phone. As I stated in the introduction, making money on your phone is possible, but there are some instances where a laptop might be needed; however, that varies. Thanks to platforms such as Shopify, running an online store has been made easier. Shopify is one of the popular e-commerce store hosting platforms that a variety of businesses use to make money and keep track of sales, campaigns, and more.

However, you still need to keep inventory/stock, of the product(s) that you will be selling. You will also need some capital to invest in stock, marketing, and store costs. To make money, you need to generate sales and to do that, you need marketing. Therefore, you might need to implement option one of this article and start creating content or running paid ads on social media and even Google Search to generate leads and subsequently sales. This is one of the more challenging ways to make money online using your phone, but it is achievable.

5. Freelance

Smartphones in this age are essentially tiny computers in our pockets. They possess numerous capabilities, allowing you to learn digital skills such as copywriting, creative writing, content design, animation, video editing, and more, which you can then offer as services on freelancing platforms. There are many freelancing platforms available that you can join and potentially find clients willing to pay you a fair amount of money for the services you provide.

Some of the most popular freelancing platforms that are quite suitable for anyone are Fiverr and UpWork. On these platforms, you can create a free account, set up a profile, list your skills, and showcase your portfolio. You can also set your rates, and if clients are interested in your offerings, they can make inquiries, and you can choose whether to accept or decline their offers. The choice is entirely yours. If you're wondering how you can fulfill your services using your phone, you can use apps such as these:

  1. Flipaclip (not sponsored) for animation.
  2. Google Docs for writing.
  3. Canva for content design.
  4. CapCut for video editing.

These are not the only apps; there are many great apps out there that you can use. These are just my recommendations for you.

Conclusion

These methods are not guaranteed to work for everyone, but some of you might have found something that could work for you in this article, and I hope that is the case. Making money through these methods can take time, so it's important to get started and avoid procrastination. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Good things take time and often require some initial investment. Thanks for reading and God bless.
